Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology

The Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology program prepares high school graduates to serve as veterinary technicians in various work settings under the direction and supervision of a veterinarian. Graduates will apply skills and knowledge to the care and management of small and large animals during clinical laboratory procedures, disease management, animal nutrition, pharmacology, parasitology, anesthesia and medical and surgical care of animals, and disease prevention, hygiene and cleaning of the work area. Graduates of the program will be trained to work as veterinary technicians with animals in veterinary hospitals, clinics, research facilities in industry or academia, educational institutions, animal shelters, sanctuaries and commercial, police and military facilities, among other scenarios. Students admitted at Cayey and Yabucoa will be transferred to the main campus in the second year to complete concentration courses.
The initial application for the accreditation of the Veterinary Technology Program has been accepted by the Committee of Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) from the American Veterinary Medical Association. This application for accreditation does not guarantee accreditation nor any temporary status of accreditation. For initial accreditation purposes, from February 28 to March 2, 2018 the Veterinary Technology Program will receive the visit from the CVTEA.
