National Architectural Accrediting Board

In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture, the Master of Architecture, and the Doctor of Architecture. A program may be granted a 6-year, 3-year, or 2-year term of accreditation, depending on the extent of its conformance with established educational standards.

Doctor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degreed programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree that, when earned sequentially, constitute an accredited professional education. However, the pre-professional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.

The International School of Design and Architecture has been approved eligibility to continue accreditation procedures of the following:

  • Master of Architecture

[non pre-professional degree plus 114 Graduate Credits- Track I]
[pre-professional degree plus 66 Graduate Credits- Track II]

  • Year of the Previous Visit: 2016
  • Current Term of Accreditation:

“At the July 2016 meeting, the directors of the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), reviewed the Visiting Team Report (VTR) for the Universidad del Turabo.

On behalf of the Board, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Master of Architecture degree program was granted initial candidacy fo accreditation.  The candidacy period is effective January 1, 2016.

The program is expected to achieve initial accreditation in no more than six years and must complete at least four.  Initial accreditation must be achieved by 2022, or the program will be required to submit a new candidacy applicaction.

Continuation of candidacy is also subject to visits every two years until initial accreditation is achieved.  The next visit for continuation of candidacy will be in 2018.”
